Great example of human kindness. I wish I would behave as the man in the story did.
I loved this very simple story. Shows how it pays off to be kind. :-)

Love this story
I find myself so focused on how other people are treating me that i dont even consider how i may be treating them. This story is a wonderful reminder to keep the ego in check.

It’s not only nice to share but wise too. I especially love the way he went the extra mile & offered her half of his last one.

On the surface a harmless story to be a „ good Christian“ ( don‘t judge others, share what you have so that others share with you). More-in-depth this story leaves you in a deep state of confusion and guilt. On purpose? It‘s not thought-provoking but brainwashing. Let me explain: being „nice“ sharing an innocent cookie without asking for permission seems to me unrespectful and violating natural unspoken boundaries. Maybe that‘s harmless, maybe that‘s not. The story even turns it into the opposite - YOU were the unrespectful one! The other was the kind person who didn‘t judge you. Well, typical example of gaslighting technique to lower your psychique boundaries. 👍🏻 ( d‘you all understand now the image of the ostrich?😉)

A lesson learned
My only question is...did she try to find the gentleman and explain why she ate his cookies? That would have made the day perfect for both of them.

I have heard this before. But I think that is is super important to remember. How we can each make mistakes and then blame it on someone else. But we can all just be kind and focus on the good.

Good story

Alright
It was an interesting story but didn't help with my stress.
J

I loved that story!
It made me realize that I blame other people for mistakes that I made all on my own. I do that because it is the much easier thing to do then to take responsibility for my own actions.
M

Really thought-provoking
I knew this already - to not point fingers easily. But this voice note reminded me of what I already know. I was anxious before I listened to this. I was a bit anxious while listening because it reminded me of a personal embarassing experience in the past. But I guess I braved it out and just focused my attention to the lesson of the story.

People can be kind without a reason, and it is very important to remind that. Actually, our first instinct is to be rude, and not kind to strangers. Better to be kind without a reason, than rude without a reason.

Intrigued
I learned to focus on others. Look into the peripheral and gain a greater understanding of things and people around me. Life isn’t all about myself and my self-righteousness. This is a great reminder of realizing and acknowledging fault in myself as it is so easy to place fault on others.

Why Not
I really enjoyed this clever story. I try to be a positive person in general, however there are definitely times when I will have the tendency to let pessimism and negativity take over, or be quick to judge...and then I am guilty of telling myself that I am just being “more realistic” with myself in those pessimistic and negative situations. Being truly realistic is not a problem, but being negative can be. I hope to continue to work on self-confidence, optimism, and instead of being a “cookie thief” and being quick to judge, I must remember to take a step back, examine myself first, choose optimism, and if any self-doubt or judging thoughts come about, I’ll try to (always) ask myself “Why not?” instead of letting my thoughts limit my potential, and “be patient” when it comes to situations when I might want to judge others.

Not to assume anything
We should never assume anything about any situation! I believe you need all the true facts or can at least prove your information or your FACTS in regards to your current situation.. Or if you facts are even the right ones!! If you don't have them correct then you have no right to ASS-U-ME Anyting!! bc then your often wrong, Which in tune Hurts YOUR relationship between (be it) your spouse, kid, parents, friends etc and can causes miss guided feelings, often ones of betrayed trust between your loved ones This story is a very good represention of that excatly!! 😁

Relating
This reminds me of the moments I have when I tell myself “I’m glad I didn’t say what I wanted to say” because if you put yourself in the lady’s shoes she wanted to tell the man to eat his own biscuits. But the plot twist revealed that the biscuits actually belonged to the man. If this was a real story I’m sure at some point she would’ve thought to herself “I’m glad I didn’t say anything. I would have been in the wrong the whole time and I could upset him and embarrass myself.” Also, it would have been nice if the story ended with her apologizing or giving him her biscuits but this is something reality based and sometimes we don’t get to say our goodbyes, gratuity, or apologies. Here’s something for perspective: What’s a moment that you interacted with someone and they were fussing about something you allegedly did wrong but it wasn’t true at all? This is why you’re told to step back from the situations and give yourself some time to think: perhaps this person was just mistaken. Of course you can’t always give everyone the benefit of the doubt but try to keep good judgement.

This story was good. I don’t think I could just sit there while someone was eating “my biscuits” I most likely would’ve told the man off. This story shows people that we must have a kindness for one another. We are all put on this earth together and it is important that we share it. Nothing is ever really our own for it was only created for us to share it with others.
B
Becca
It’s important to be nice and always share
Some times you just need to a friend. It helps to have a biscuit here and there
K
Kathy
The truth of the matter is
Kindness and generosity are two of the greatest gifts mankind has the ability to give to others. Not only do they allow the giver the opportunity to show love but they also add an additional dimension to the heart recognition and processing of the other. It becomes a personal growth step for each. Judgment just simply does not belong as we engage with others.
M
Mikayla
Assuming
I learned that you can’t assume and judge others. Of courses I’ve never judged anyone in my entire life but it’s always amazing to be reminded that you can’t assume things about others. For example,Somebody in your class could have fallen asleep during class and you’d probably think ‘wow, she’s is definitely going to fail this test’ but she ends up getting the highest grade in the class much to everyone’s puzzlement and disbelief. EVERYONE is unique and special in their own way and assuming is wrong.

Snack for the heart

Judging
I learned to be careful not to judge till I understand the whole situation. If the woman tried to understand that the cookies she was eating wasn’t hers but the man’s.
P
Payton
conclusion
I noticed that the woman in the story is like many people. With the realization that it’s is easier to blame others than yourself. We as a whole need to find that we are all full of faults and instead of hiding them we need to acknowledge them and forgive ourselves and later learn to forgive others as they make mistakes as well.

A

I felt the story was too plain & nonsensical.
I learned one should not just jump to conclusions and fire off w/o checking out all the details first. Reminds me of the saying - Should not “assume” anything since it makes an “ass” out of “u” and “me”. This all reminds me to be mindful and aware before taking action...

Jumping to Conclusions
We are so quick to jump to conclusions sometimes in a situation without seeing the whole picture first. I have done this many times. When I have been wrong I have owned up to my mistake and apologized to that person. For so many people owning up to their mistakes is so hard for them.
MA
Mary Alice
This story brought the biggest smile to my face. Simple yet perfect for what I needed to hear!
It's difficult but incredible to push yourself to think of reasons why others do the things they do instead of jumping to conclusions. It's a goal of mine to make more decisions similar to the man splitting the last biscuit! ☺️

I felt good because I don’t need to judge people and see if they been generous with me
I learned that if I want to give I have to accept that the people may not saying thank or may not appreciate that because I didn’t do that to get them like me I do that to feel good because I’m being generous to others and I have appreciate my gesture and be proud about it or stop doing it. Don’t wait the others make you feel good about yourself do that to you because you deserve to feel great about yourself Thank Aura to make me believe that

Patients VS overreacting
I try not to judge guests actions at work, because I don’t always know what they’ve been through before they have reached their destination. It can be a challenge and sometimes it’s gratifying and other times not. But, I’ve learned to react as if they’re wright even if I know they’re not. When their head clears they sometimes come back and apologize. It’s always best not to react until you know for certain what the cause of the problem is. Better for them, better for me🌞

Be king always. Give thanks be grateful. We are one. Sometimes in life we want to blame others for what has gone wrong with our own lives but that will not solve anything about the situation you are in. Keep a positive attitude and this too shall pass. And when you look back at this time you will realize that it is okay.

I’ve heard this story before. It always makes you grateful for others in your life, either strangers or friends and family, we shouldn’t judge other from the outside. Like our grandparents would always tell us, don’t judge a book by its cover. We should all except one another all day everyday.

Cookie Thief Story
It’s easy to forget the small details or things that seem insignificant, take the time to notice the small things as they tend to have the greatest impact. Don’t jump to conclusions
I find myself jumping to conclusions all the time and often eat pissed off at people for no reason. I’m not sure why but it is always me just jumping to the wrong conclusion without thinking it through. Always think about what you are doing and don’t judge someone for how they were or how they seem, judge people for who they are, what they do and what they mean to you.

Great story but...
This is a great story, I have heard it before but told differently and thought the version I originally heard carried more meaning! In the version I prefer: The lady not just confused that the man is eating her cookies but is actually very upset, even angry, and says nothing. Then the man gets up, expresses that he enjoyed sharing a snack together and leaves. Then she notices her full box of cookies in her bag. I find the parable more effective when the lady’s negativity was the self-made product of her presumptions and reluctance to inquire why the stranger was doing what they were.

Genuinely kind.
Maybe not all men are bad men. Maybe some men actually have good intentions. Maybe I shouldn't be so hard on my spouse. I should be more forgiving and not so abrasive and set boundaries for myself so I don't allow myself to be pushed across my limits. Maybe he really does see the world as I do and I let old thoughts and bad patterns get in the way of seeing him for who he is.

blame
when something is out of place or doesnt seem right, and we dont have all the facts, we can end up writing a story in our heads to make sense of what's happening and typically we are the hero in the story, not the other person(s). in this case it was that the man is a thief...

Life has been good and I’m learning how to just enjoy and observe. Society has taught us to take, keep, and fight for what’s right. I will make efforts to freely give without expecting anything in return, to let go and forget the small stuff.

I've learned that at times I am so driven with getting my point across,I never listen to the other side of the argument...so I will learn to listen to others and not be so focused on been heard, for when you listen it's when you learn the most..

Biscuits
Generosity aids in the act of sharing public space. Generosity is a choice. A choice I make when boarding the MTA everyday. Generosity is a requirement to live in harmony with others around me in such a place like New York City.

A Matter Of Perception
We cannot judge the feelings or the characters of others with perfect accuracy from their actions or their appearance in public; it is from their careless conversations, their half finished sentences, that we may hope with the greatest probability of success to discover their real characters. Why judge when it’s only a matter of perception?

Walking in the woman’s shoe I too thought it was strange what the man was doing. I was trying to predict the lesson of this story. I was no way near because I thought the man was homeless and a cookie would make his day. Or maybe he missed eating cookies with someone special who just passed away or left him. Something like that.

Day 13
I realize often that my perspective can be skewed due to things like pride, ego, confidence. But they don’t always serve me beneficially or people around me. I’m happy I can acknowledge that I am wrong. Even if it is after the fact
M
Mina
It’s not always the others fault.
People need to learn not to blame other people all the time. Making them feel like they’re doing everything wrong. We have to stop judging others instead we should think of us and our mistakes. We’re making mistakes everyday and not blaming ourselves for it. But if the first person does something wrong we are the first ones to judge. This has to stop. Why do we have to be so mean to each other? This has no solution. Just be nice, to judge anyone. Make them feel good or at least distance yourself from them if you don’t like them...

Dont assume
Many people (myself included) Can be really quick to judge and not fully assess the situation. This can lead to an argument that could have been avoided otherwise. Its always important to gather as much information as possible before making a decision.

Unexpected
It was a funny story, but in fact, it happens in real life. We should all be generous. After all, we are lucky to have something to share. Unlike others who have to ask to have something.

I learned that before you judge or assume something get all the information and truly just ask if you don’t know. The whole situation could’ve been avoided if the girl would’ve just spoke up and pushed passed her fear and said something to the gentlemen and then they could’ve talked and laughed about it and she wouldn’t have to be sitting on a plane feeling bad. Don’t let situations and opportunities pass you by. I learned that I do this sometimes, I jump to conclusions before I have all the information or don’t ask or just speak up about something. We all have dealt with this and are prone to these feelings of judgment and fear but that’s why when we are mindful and don’t let negativity in we can push all those feelings away and truly see things for how they truly are! Which opens the doors to new and great opportunities and the possibilities are endless. I really enjoyed this mediation. Really need this reminder today 🧘🏼‍♀️😌

I love how this story can just change people. This story reminds me of a teacher I had that recently passed away I can just picture him giving away his cookies to a stranger. I won’t give his name but I know he’s in a good place now and bless his family for getting through this.

Two Perspectives
I noticed that my first reaction was embarrassment for the woman at not knowing she was mistaken, which I think was an interesting response. The man might have perceived her as zestfully unrestrained in her invitation of him to warmly engage with her in actively holding that quiet transient space. A mindful “breaking bread” together, however temporary. For all she knew he delighted at her relishing of the present moment.

Resentment and Hate. Trying to not feel this way any longer.
I was too consumed with my own thoughts that I didn't give the story the attention I ahould have. I'm in a state of angry and resentment. I've noticed that I spend my entire day projecting those feelings at one person and I can't seem to channel it in a different way. I try to forget and at sometimes I can put it into prospective and make myself understand that there are way more important things in life and better ways to focus that energy in good ways. But at the end of day, they still come back. I resent the person for what he did and the way he handled it. For how he made me appear to others. As something im not. He was the terrible person and the things he did were just plain wrong and indecent coming from a human being. I want him to know what he did and realize that it was his mistakes that lead to this point. And mine for not having walled away when k know I would have.
